Quins’ teams go all out in league matches

Quins' cricket teams did well in league matches this weekend.

UMBILO Harlequins cricket club’s mashie golf extravaganza was a well-supported, booming success on Saturday.

The endeavours of Dieter Liebenberg, Kevin Kettle, Mike Ware and all the individual hole sponsors as well as provisions by local business were fundamental catalysts for the successful event.

Quins Second team played a challenge reserve league match at Phoenix. Quins two batted first, with G Riddle top scoring with 25 runs and Saint John Piek compiling 24 runs assisting Quins 2 to a total of 163. Medium paced right arm seam bowler Wayne Rittmuller captured three Verulam wickets for just 15 runs in eight overs to help dismiss Verulam 2 for 148 runs in 34 overs and 5 deliveries to take Quins through to a 15 run victory.

Quins fourth team versed Mpumalanga. Quins 4 compiled 132 runs, with Trent De Villiers undefeated on 57 runs. Clinton Abrahams' innings of 20 runs was gristly dynamic. Quins seamers combined with poor fielding and wicket-keeping allowed Mpumalanga to gain the ascendancy from an early stage of their innings with a dogged partnership of about 70 runs by their gutsy third and fourth batsmen. Mpumalanga won by five wickets.

Quins U13 team batted first in their south stream league match against Umgababa. In their 30 overs, Quins amassed 273 runs losing seven wickets. Tyler Jordan was undefeated with 60 runs, Seth Adinall made 55 runs, Kendal Edwards compiled 32 runs, Dale Shooter contributed 24 runs and Vishay Ramchander got 20 runs. This match was a non-contest as Jaan Fredericks blasted out half the opposition batsmen not conceding any runs in 14 deliveries, while Heath Manicom captured two wickets for seven runs in 14 deliveries dismissing Umgababa for 11 runs in seven overs. Quins won by 262 runs and remain undefeated this season.

Chatsworth sporting U11s showed more tenacity in their 30 over south stream league encounter against Quins. Sporting managed 93 runs, being dismissed in the 28th over. Yudav Singh took three wickets for six runs in five overs and Dhiren Govender claimed two wickets for seven runs in three overs. An undefeated 49 by Jared Finlay, likewise an undefeated 22 runs by Cole Brady and 21 runs by Dhiren Govender allowed Quins to be victories by seven wickets.
