McGregor bags world surfski series title in France

The unstoppable Hank McGregor won the French Bretzh Ocean Race at the weekend and is geared to end 2016 with a bang in Honk Kong.

IT was an epic weekend for Jeep Team athletes across the globe when eight times World Champion Hank McGregor bagged the 7th edition of the French Bretzh Ocean Race, a World Surfski Series Race in Morbihan, France.

McGregor claimed his outstanding victory in a time of 1:04:41, a massive three minutes ahead of French athletes, Yannick Laousse (1:07:18) and Noe Pelizza (1:07:26), who battled it out for second and third position in the 16.7 km downwind race in the Bay of Quiberon, France, in freezing conditions and 25-knot winds.

McGregor said: “I am super stoked with this win at the Breizh Surfski Race in France after coming second the previous year. I am at peak fitness after the World Champs and Hansa River but mixing up my races definitely helped. It was absolutely freezing at around nine degrees, and the wind was howling but this served me very well. I loved every minute of it. As always, in this type of downward race, tactics rule,” he said.

McGregor said he is ready for Hong Kong’s Dragon Run in Kowloon from 12 to 13 November. This International Surfski Championships is a 24km course starting at Clearwater Bay and finishing at Stanley Main Beach.

Though the weather conditions in Hong Kong in November provide excellent downward paddling conditions, the course will present paddlers with highly technical conditions for the majority of the race, testing the best of the best in the world.
