Interested players between the ages of 11 and 13 years are encouraged to join the club.
HARLEQUINS Cricket Club had a successful weekend of league match cricket.
On Sunday, 1 December, the first team took on Railways from Tongaat in a 50 over a side match. The Railways batsmen managed a below par tally of 145 runs, being dismissed in the 48th over. Quins’ fast bowlers performed well by virtue of Kevin Kettle who captured three wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs and George Bronkhorst who got a wicket for 29 runs in 10 overs.
Back up seamer C De Villiers provided good support in capturing one wicket for 34 runs in eight overs, however it was slow medium paced seamer Fayaz Safri who captured the wickets of three of railways middle order batsmen for just 17 runs in seven overs and provided the best support for the quick bowlers with his accurately directed deliveries.
Mention must also made of the contributions by Mohamed Patel with his off cutters, who conceded a run an over for seven overs and newly introduced slow right hand orthodox spinner Momadthala Motalha who captured a wicket for seven runs in 14 deliveries. Sheldon Spindler successfully took two catches. George Bronkhorst took a catch at deep long on and was responsible for a great run out. Momedthala Motalha fielded well by his standards also taking a high catch at deep long on.
The response by Quins was beyond superlative. A delightful undefeated innings by opener Juran Pillay consisted of lots of singles and even more double runs with his partner Sheldon Spindler, and five good boundary shots ending the innings with 67 runs. Spindler held out with the total on 76 runs for a personal score of 38 runs.
Quins reached the set target of 145 runs by acquiring 146 runs for the loss of two wickets in 26 overs securing a victory with a bonus point. Quins’ first team is currently in the middle section of the Promotion A log.
Other team results: Quins’ 2nds vs Railways 2: Quins 2 won by seven runs; Quins’ U13s vs East Coast: Quins won by eight runs; Quins’ 6ths vs Chatsworth Sporting 7: Quins won by nine wickets.
