Clean up this mess, pleads resident
Ninth Avenue is in a sorry state despite pleas by a resident to have DSW clean it up.

A MORNINGSIDE resident is fed up with non-delivery of services from Durban Solid Waste who have failed to sweep up the mess in Ninth Avenue for more than a month, despite numerous complaints.
Chutrapal Panday, a resident and supervisor at Beau Casa for the past 16 years said he had made numerous attempts to get DSW to sweep Ninth Avenue, but it had all been in vain. “The last time I saw people sweep the street was on a Sunday over a month ago. It is terrible because Ninth and Tenth Avenue are not swept, yet Avondale Road which is just a street away, is always kept clean because people go to the Spar,” he said.
According to Panday, when complaining to DSW, he is transfered from one person to the next and is given a reference number for his complaints, but the road is still not swept clean.
With the windy season on the way, Panday said the problem will be exacerbated since the road is lined with large trees and already the falling leaves were causing a problem.
“We endeavour to keep our environment and verges clean but it’s a disgrace to step outside the gate and find the road is filthy. It is embarrassing, especially for Durban as a tourist destination. DSW just need to do their job, we are paying rates and taxes,” he added.
Panday also pointed out the weeds growing out of the pavement and the unkempt storm water drain as well as a DSW rubbish bin at the corner of Clarence and Ninth Avenue, which was overflowing with dirt early on Saturday morning. “The dirt doesn’t get picked up and is obviously going to fly onto our road,” the agitated resident said shaking his head.
