CAPE TOWN based Mozambican drummer/percussionist Frank Paco is all set to head up a 6-piece band consisting of Muriel Marco on keys and Durban-based musicians Thulile Zama (vocals), Jonathan Judge (saxophone), Milton Chissano (guitar) and Prince Bulo (bass) for a trio of concerts in Durban.
Paco will bring a selection of his latest compositions that will combine Mozambican and South African influences. People also know him as founder of the group Tucan Tucan.
Highlights of Paco’s career as a drummer/percussionist include a performance at the 46664 with Queen, Bono, Peter Gabriel, Jimmy Cliff to name a few on the bill, his work with America based South African guitarist Jonathan Buttler as well his work with the late Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and Gold Fish.
Paco’s first concert kicks off on Wednesday 30 October at the UKZN Centre for Jazz & Popular Music, Howard College. Doors open at 5.30pm and tickets are R35, R20 for pensioners and R10 UKZN students.
