Nostalgic tribute to the Carpenters
Music from the Carpenters will entertain at the Heritage Theatre this month.
ENJOY the beautiful sounds of the Carpenters at Heritage Theaztre, Hillcrest where Yesterday Once More showcases some of the best loved hits by the brother and sister duo until 26 Janaury.
The Carpenters were the biggest-selling group of the 70s. No fewer than 10 of their singles went on to become million-sellers, and by 2005 combined worldwide sales of albums and singles well exceeded 100 million units. Yet the Carpenters were much more than creators of beautifully crafted and hugely successful hit records.
Within the space of just a few years their unique and inimitable sound had brought a new dimension to the world of popular music. The show is a purely musical and de-constructed look into the works of brother and sister super-group, Richard and Karen Carpenter, known to the world as simply “Carpenters”. Among the songs featured are Close To You, I Won’t Last A Day Without You, Top Of The World, Only Yesterday, Rainy Days And Mondays and We’ve Only Just Begun. As well as their famous re-arrangements of other artists music such as Ticket To Ride, Please Mr Postman, Solitaire, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again and many more.
The show, which ran to packed houses two years ago, is back for a short season and features Heritage Theatre stalwarts Marion Loudon and Melanie Roberts. They are ably backed by Chloe Clark on piano and keyboards, Nux Schwartz on guitar, Glen Turrell on bass and Andy Turrell on drums, pedal steel and anything else he can get his hands on.
Tickets are R185 for Tuesday dinner and Sunday lunch, and R215 Wednesday to Saturday including a two course meal.
