Jazz great at KZNSA
SAMA Award winning musician, McCoy Mrubata, will perform in Durban.
SAXOPHONIST, flute player, band leader and composer McCoy Mrubata, will perform at KZNSA Gallery, Glenwood, on Friday 2 May at 6pm.
McCoy, who is based in Johannesburg, will be in KwaZulu-Natal to head up a quintet consisting of Durban-based talents Neil Gonsalves on keys, Paki Peloeole on drums, Sibusiso Mkhize on trumpet and Ildo Nandja on bass.
Murbata is known as one of the jazz greats who had an interest in music from an early age. He started playing flute in 1976 and started playing professionally with a band in 1979. In 1988 he began a successful career in the United Kingdom and later played with many jazz greats, such as Hugh Masekela. In 2003 he won the SAMA award in the Traditional Jazz Category.
