Nandja for Jazz Centre
A Masters student in jazz performance will entertain at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music.
THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents Durban based Mozambican bassist Ildo Nandja on Wednesday 14 May at 6pm.
Ildo's band features Shemual Mahabeer (piano), Sbu Zondi (drums), Dr Salim Washington (sax) and George Mari (trumpet).
Ildo Nandja is a regular to the stage at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music through his collaborations with various local and international performers. He is also currently a student doing a Masters in Jazz Performance at UKZN.
The repertoire will showcase an exclusive selection of recent compositions. The compositions combine Ildo's mastery of the double bass with his vocal abilities. The arrangements derive inspiration from traditional Mozambican and African music as well as jazz, Latin and contemporary styles. Ildo will explore these genres with his own unique and harmonious flair. Expect a night of beautiful pan-African music and rhythm.
Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM) is at Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus.
Entry is R40 (pensioners pay R20 and students R15).
