The Awakening performs at UKZN
The Awakening, a collaboration between Burton Naidoo and Gisele Turner, will perform at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music.
THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents The Awakening on Wednesday 21 May at 6pm.
Artists have written, sung, painted and sculpted about the love that God has for his greatest creation, man. The love is portrayed through the poetry of Kabir, Hafiz, Rumi and The Song of Solomon, with great imagery and desire.
Pianist and composer Burton Naidoo and Gisele Turner have long spoken about collaborating. They have chosen these works as a vehicle. Man’s greatest desire is to worship something, anything. The Awakening is a call for us all to find our “first fruit” and ignite our passion for the divine, through song, word and improvisation.
The Awakening features Burton Naidoo (piano), Gisele Turner (spoken word), Lauren Dassapa (voice), Salim Washington (flute) and Jude Kenrick (percussion).
The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM) is on Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus.
Doors open at 5.30pm and music starts at 6pm.
Entry is R40 (pensioners pay R20 and students R15).
