Choir performs Vivaldi’s Gloria

Durban Girls College Senior Choir will perform with the Baroque 2000 orchestra on Sunday.

A SPECIAL collaboration between Baroque 2000 and the Durban Girls’ College senior choir sees a performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria on Sunday 15 June at the Church of the Monastery, Mariannhill at 3pm

One of the greatest choral works of its time, the Gloria was conceived while the composer was teaching and composing at the Ospedale della Pieta, the convent, orphanage and music school in Venice. On this occasion the work will be performed with an all female choir, as it was at the Ospedale where no men other than priests such as Vivaldi himself were admitted.

Theresa Mbatha is the soprano soloist, and the other solo voices are drawn from the College choir. The other works on the programme are the Passacaglias 3 and 4 by Mariani, Manfredini’s Concerto Grosso op 3 no 11, and the Concerto Grosso La Follia by Geminiani.

Tickets are R120 at the door, and there is ample safe parking. Contact 082 303 5241 or sursouth@iafrica.com
