Earthy sounds at music recital

Baroque 2000's next recital will be at Mariannhill Monastery on Sunday.

BAROQUE 2000’s next concert entitled Earth Sounds, takes place on 31 May at the Church of the Monastery Mariannhill at 3pm.

In the programme are pieces with striking musical descriptions and depictions: Jean-FéryRebel’s extraordinary Les Elemens conjures up Chaos, Earth, Air, Fire and Water, as well as the magical calls of the nightingale and other birds. It is scored for strings, woodwinds, brass and timpani.

Johann Joseph Fux’s Overture No.4 in D Major also portrays the nightingale, along with the cuckoo and the quail, while Jean-Philippe Rameau’s 6ème concert humorously imitates the chicken. Handel’s Concerto Grosso op 3 no 1 for strings, flutes and oboes is also on the programme.

Tickets for this concert of intriguing music are R120 at the door. There is plenty of safe parking; enquiries to Michel, 082 303 5241 or at sursouth@iafrica.com
