DURBAN’S bay-side Catalina Theatre will present five exciting shows under the banner, Not The Grahamstown Festival during June.
This prime mix of entertainment will run between 11 and 20 June in the intimate performance venue on Wilson’s Wharf, as a showcase of some of Durban’s theatre productions that are set to play on the 2015 National Arts Festival Fringe.
Not The Grahamstown Festival aims to help offset costs and to assist artists and productions on their journey to South Africa's biggest arts festival, while offering local theatre goers the opportunity to salute and support their home-grown talent. Titles on Not The Grahamstown Festival’s line-up include Rowin Munsamy’s skit comic two-hander, No Contest?!, Clinton Marius’s side-splitting B!*ch Stole My Doek, starring Shona Johnson, the acclaimed two-hander, The Monotonous presented by Theatre of Human Purpose, All Gone, a cautionary tale based on a true-life human drama, and Arach-no-phobia, a collaborative contemporary dance piece staged by Dance Direction International and Youngstar Productions.
No Contest?! can be seen on Friday 12 June at 8pm or at 6pm on Saturday 13 June; All Gone plays on Saturday 13 June at noon and 19 June at 8pm; The Monotonous can be seen at 2pm on 13 and 20 June; Arach-No-Phobia will be performed on 13 June at 8pm on 20 June and 6pm; while B!*ch Stole My Doek has a 2.30pm matinee on Sunday 14 June, and can also been viewed on Saturday 20 June at 8pm, bringing the festival to a close.
