Exhibition supports CANSA

AN exhibition entitled, Africa Uncovered, opens at Corner Cafe in Glenwood on Thursday, 2 July from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

Africa Uncovered is a study of the female human form in a decade where we are bombarded with unrealistic images portraying an unattainable ideal.

This project aims to show women everywhere that despite current and ever changing trends, they are beautiful in their individuality.

Roy Esterhuysen is a local photographer who works tirelessly to improve his craft. He started out, as a lot of photographers do, with a basic camera and a desire to learn. Over the years he attempted many different genres of photography, but found that his true love was in capturing the human spirit in all its many varied ways.

Roy's inspiration comes from many places but none more so than Gok Wan, Joey L and Lara Jade. When Gok appeared on television screens, he did so with flair and true desire to help women everywhere feel good about themselves. Seeing this inspired Roy to follow in his footsteps using photography as his mode of empowerment.

Joey L and Lara Jade are New York based commercial and fashion photographers. They have very different styles but a very similar approach to photography with regards to their work ethic and desire to succeed. Both started creating images at a young age and both have inspired countless photographers the world over.

Whether because of Gok, Joey L, Lara Jade or any of the countless others; Roy is determined to create beautiful images in a way that both touches and inspires people. He hopes to one day leave as much of an impression on the world as those who have influenced him.

The key focus of the national gallery tour series is to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer, and the series has images of 17 topless women, including one with a mastectomy.

CANSA will be promoting each gallery showing venue through Facebook, Instagram and email.

Roy Esterhuysen will create an Instagram meet and Facebook events for each venue where visitors can do check-ins on social media at the gallery showings to win a print.

All profit from the framed prints used in the gallery tour will go to CANSA and a portion of proceeds from re-prints will also be donated to CANSA.
