Youth orchestra performs

The KZN Youth Orchestra Gala Concert will be held at Durban Girls' College.

THE KZN Youth Orchestra (KZNYO) will present its annual gala concert at Durban Girls' College in Musgrave Road on Sunday, 13 September at 11.30am.

This will be the final concert for the year. The KZNYO has had a productive year with a record breaking intake of members. The orchestra has performed several concerts in KZN this year – at Greystone in Escourt, Crawford North Coast, Umhlanga college, Empangeni High, various retirement centres around Durban, and at the FNB Starlight Pops concert at Chris Saunders Park. The orchestra toured to the Eastern Cape in July and performed the programme “Classic Blast” at Port Alfred, at the Keiskamma music school in Hamberg and two concerts at the Grahamstown festival.

On Sunday 13, the orchestra will present a varied concert featuring their main orchestra, the Shadow Orchestra, and then will finish with a number of items performed by the massed combined 72 piece orchestra. Expect to hear music ranging from the Baroque period, some Celtic, Indian, classical orchestral favourites, ending with some jazz and pop thrown in.The concert will be presented in picnic style where patrons are encouraged to take their own refreshments and will have the option of tables to sit at or concert style seating. Tickets are R25 and will be available at the door.

This is a perfect opportunity for budding young musicians to see the KZNYO in action. Auditions for new members will be held on 16 and 17 October.
