Up-and-coming comedian for Durban
One of SA's top up-and-coming comedians will perform at the Durban Playhouse this October.
SIMMI Areff is rated one of the top up-and-coming comedians in the country and has the credentials to prove it.
Durban audiences are in for a treat as Simmi brings his one-man show, Stay At Home Son, to the stage at The Loft at The Playhouse Company from 27 to 31 October at 8pm.
The show is about a young Muslim boy who stays with his parents and the various experiences and observations he has with them and other people while growing up.
Simmi grew up in a Muslim part of Durban and moved to Johannesburg in 2011 with R30 in his pocket and a dream of being a stand-up comedian. He performed in bars and clubs. Simmi recalls how once he and his flatmates were so poor, all they could afford for supper was a lollipop.
The tables turned in Simmi’s favour and his journey has seen him touring extensively throughout the country. He recently had a very successful sold out one-man show at the Joburg Theatre. He is often seen opening for Riaad Moosa and has also shared the stage with the likes of John Vlismas, Trevor Noah, Eugene Khoza, Chester Missing & Conrad Koch, Mark Banks, Marc Lottering, Trevor Gumbi, Loyiso Gola, Kagiso Lediga and many more.
