The food and culture of Durban will be showcased at the second Durban Street Food Festival in December.
THE second Durban Street Food Festival celebrates all things summer, and will be held over the Reconciliation Day long weekend at the Rivertown Precinct, 102 Florence Nzama Street.
The Festival will showcase some of the city’s most interesting food, featuring culturally specific fare, home grown staples and meals respecting various special diets. A diverse range of vendors and foodies will display and sell their wares over the weekend.
The organisers have also included sponsored stalls for local disadvantaged street traders to ensure that visitors can experience a truly unique and authentic range of fare from the streets of Durban.
There is also a special Tanqueray gin-based cocktail created by respected mixologist Haroon Haffajee using pineapple puree, coconut water and vanilla syrup, which will become the event’s signature cocktail and will be served on special for the duration of the event.
Although food is the focus of the festival, the city’s many cultures will be further honoured through the performing arts, with a stage showcasing Durban’s finest – from jazz to hip-hop, comedy to acoustic, contemporary to traditional, in both music and dance. The activities will range from street dance battles to small theatre performances, comedy, live bands and DJs.
