SA pianist for recital

Charl du Plessis, a Steinway Artist, will perform at the next Friends of Music Association recital.

SA pianist, Charl du Plessis, will perform at the next Friends of Music recital on 8 March at Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban at 7.30pm.

Charl completed his doctoral performance degree in classical and jazz piano at the University of Pretoria, and was the youngest pianist in Africa to be named a Steinway Artist. He has collaborated with many musicians and has performed with South Africa’s most prestigious orchestras. International concert tours to Europe and the Far-East have contributed to the press hailing Du Plessis as a “cult pianist” “edu-tainer” and a pianist with “x-factor.” He performs more than 130 concerts per season.

His programme will include Bach's Chaconne in D minor, Chopin's Fantasy in F minor Op. 49. Waltz – Op. 64 no. 1/Waltz in C# minor Op.64 no. 2 and Gershwin's Three Preludes – The man I love/Summertime/I Got Rhythm/Rhapsody in Blue.

Prelude performer is pianist, Joshua Stapleton who has been a student of Dr Liezl-Maret Jacobs since 2014. He has completed the Cambridge IGCSE Level in Music with distinction. He was also awarded a school trophy for the “Most Promising Performer” for music for 2015.

Tickets are R80 for members, R100 for visitors and R20 for students and orchestral members.
