Youth orchestra performs

The cream of the crop of young musicians from all around KZN province will perform in a concert at Crawford College.

THE KZN Youth Orchestra will perform its first concert for the year at Crawford College North Coast on Friday, 11 March from 6pm to 7pm in the hall.

The KZNYO consists of the cream of the crop of young musicians from around the province. The concert will be varied and will start with the “Shadow” orchestra conducted by Cathy Peacock. This is a feeder orchestra for the A orchestra. The A orchestra will then perform such orchestral favourites such as ‘March Slave’ by Tchaikovsky, ‘Bacchanle’ from Samson and Delilah by Saint Saens, Brahms Hungarian dance no 5 and some contemporary favourites such as ‘Libertango’ and ‘New York, New York‘.

The A orchestra performed at the National Arts festival in Grahamstown last year and are hoping to perform at the Chamber festival in Stellenbosch in July this year. To end off the concert, both orchestras will combine with some of the students from Crawford College and will perform a couple of massed items.

Some tables will be set up so if patrons would like to take snacks and drinks they will be welcome.

Tickets for the event are R40 for adults and R20 for students and pensioners, available at the door on the day from 4.30pm.
