In the second half they will team up and accompany soloists from DGC and the Drakensberg Boys’ choir. The evening will end with two massed choir and orchestral items.
The first half of the concert will feature marimbas from DGC conducted by Calvin Human and the three choirs – Umhlanga College Choir, conducted by Heidi Huizinga, Durban Girls’ College choir conducted by Ronel Perks and choral pieces rendered by the Drakensberg Boys' choir under the directorship of Bernard Kruger and Charlotte Botha. Part of the proceeds of the concert will go to The CANSA Mkhuhla Care Home. This first opened its doors in 1975 to cancer patients and has since then made it possible for more than 12,000 people with cancer to access life-saving treatment in Durban. The Home provides full accommodation including all meals and transport to and from the treatment centres. Twenty-four hour care and support is provided in a holistic, therapeutic environment. It is the only facility of its kind in KwaZulu Natal. It is financed by CANSA’s own fundraising and donations from the public. It receives no governmental assistance or has any stable source of finance.
Tickets are R100 and R80 for school pupils and pensioners. Booking is essential and can be done through Tania Borman on: tborman@dgc.co.za
