Supper, sounds and stills with Heels over Head

Enjoy an exhibition, supper and performance by Heels over Head at The Plant.

THERE will be a night of supper, sounds and stills on Friday 29 July at The Plant, 5 Station Drive (off Umgeni Road) at 7pm.

The Plant venue provides the backdrop for an elegant Supper Club set. Renegade Kitchen and the jazzy ladies of Heels over Head have been cooking up some old classics and smooth beats and paired up with Vulane Mthembu’s Film Noir inspired photographs, vintage décor and mid century classics by Solder, they have put together a night to remember.

For this special occasion Heels over Head partnered with photographer Vulane Mthembu and curators Russel Hlongwane and Simanga Zondo to present a special series of Film Noir themed photographs. This exhibition looks at the universal search and struggle of women for their place within society. In the works you will see women in (seemingly) powerful positions and it seeks dialogue about the ideal image of women that is being presented by the media and the masses.

Mthembu presents these issues by cleverly making use of Film Noir, gangster type images in which the women are always victorious.

As part of the exhibition you will hear the ladies performing live. Heels over Head’s music is referred to as smooth jazz or easy-breezy pop jazz, they developed a notable and clever signature sound that consists of current African-influenced music and uniquely re-arranged standards.

Lucy Markewicz’s mobile catering company, Renegade Kitchen, have put together a fitting retro-styled meal for the occasion.

There is a R250 entrance fee, which includes the exhibition, two-course meal and performance. Menu available on request.
