Drums in the spotlight at showcase
Drums will be in the forefront at a showcase at The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music.
A JAZZ drum showcase by selected first to third year students and a few alumni who are prominent faces on the Durban and South African music scene, takes place at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on Wednesday 27 July at 6pm.
The drummers will present music that puts the drums in the forefront as well as drum solo compositions of the icons of the instrument such as Max Roach and Tony Williams. Some of the pieces will be from the students’ exam repertoire which range in style from Bebop to Big Band to Contemporary Fusion. Other items will be the students’ own ideas and compositions.
