Jazz band celebrates debut album
Jazz band, 5th Season, will perform at UKZN in celebration of their debut album, Symmetry.
THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents 5th Season jazz band on Wednesday, 12 October at 6pm.
The ethnically diverse and proudly South African Durban-based band 5th Season, will be performing in celebration of their debut album Symmetry which was launched in October 2015.
The album Symmetry is the result of many months of planning and reflects the bands diversity and heritage. It is a blend of re-arrangements of jazz standards and original compositions, and is collectively very easy listening, which will no doubt appeal to the more discerning music lover.
Having met while studying jazz and popular music at UKZN in 2010, founder members of the band, brothers Devon and Brayden Hore (drummer and bassist) teamed up with talented guitarist Mthunzi Mchunu (Mo). The trio, with their shared passion for ballads, swing, smooth and African jazz, as well as commercial/pop with a jazz element, have establishing themselves as a go-to band in KZN. The trio expanded its musical offering to include the extremely versatile vocalist Janice Joseph, also a product of UKZN.
Expect to hear 5th Season play a wide variety of well-known jazz standards and contemporary tunes as well as original compositions.
Their debut album will be available on the night.
Tickets are R60 for general admission, R40 for pensioners and R20 for students. Contact Thuli on 031 260 3385.
