Band performs for live recording
The band won an award for Best Afro Jazz Band at uShaka Marine World in 2013.
ZISAMO, a five-piece band, will be performing at The Jazzy Rainbow, 93 Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Road on Saturday, 25 February at 8.30pm.
The band, made up of Morgan Mchunu on rhythm guitar and vocals, Manuel Masinga on lead guitar and vocals, Magiza Shange on bass guitar, Thabani Luthuli on drums and Princess Dube on vocals and percussion, got together in 2013.
The band won an award for Best Afro Jazz Band at uShaka Marine World in 2013, and got a year contract from the Department of Arts and Culture to perform at Wahooz at uShaka. They have performed in and around Durban for the last few years and also do charity and fundraiser gigs.
Their music is versatile ranging from reggae, Latino, Brazilian jazz, Spanish, blues, afro pop, jazz and soul, and they also do Mbira music.
Zisamo has never recorded a CD, however their manager, Gina Corrigan, felt it was very important to put together a CD to enable her to promote this multi-talented band. The event at The Jazzy Rainbow will be held to record the live performance for the CD, and Gordan Jackson of Kingston Sound, a well-known musician and very talented sound engineer, will be doing the recording and mixing of the CD.
There will be a cover charge of R80 per person, which includes a drink.
