Local artist hits the right notes
Manelisi 'Mgroovo' Dlamini will also be performing at a concert that plans to raise R100 000 to help students with their education.
WITH a name like Mgroovo, derived from the word groove, Manelisi 'Mgroovo' Dlamini says his music will surely make you dance all night long. Dlamini was recently nominated for the best upcoming artist at the Live Your Dream awards and with the release of his new album “No Return” he is optimistic about his future in the music industry.
“The nomination has opened a lot of doors for me. People now recognise my name and it also given me the opportunity to work with big artists like Pat Zondi who is also a radio presenter at Izwi Lomzansi, Nyoni'mhlophe and Dust to mention a few. The album has also been well received by people, which is very encouraging to me. I'm seeing the level of my music growing so that is inspirational enough,” said Dlamini.
He has been in the music scene for over 15 years, but only recorded his demo in 2004 and unlike most Kwaito artists, Dlamini says he loves all genres of music and can work with anyone/any genre and bring something unique. “I did a song with Pat Zondi who is a Jazz artist and Nyoni'mhlophe who does Maskandi but we did a song that people would love and enjoy. Further more I am currently planning to do a song with an Afro-Jazz Legend Mama Nomalanga Hlubi, Wandile Method and Bongezizwe,” Dlamini said.
He credits his team for keeping him grounded at all times and said his goal to make his mother and child happy and proud is what motivates him. He is also part of the artists who will be performing at the Fundraising Music Concert Empangeni next month. The concert plans to raise R100 000 to help struggling students with their education. The show will be live on DSTV channel 261 (KZN TV).
