Centre for Jazz and popular music brings saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane

THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane in concert on Wednesday, 3 May at 5.30pm.

The 24-year old South African born saxophonist, composer and arranger was born in Umlazi township and his musical journey began in primary school taking recorder lessons with Mrs V Rajmoney at Clairwood Boys’ Primary School.

His love for music, especially jazz, was triggered at an early age, this saw him attending music classes under the tutelage of the Legendary Dr Brian Thusi and Mr Khulekani Bhengu. At a later stage he enrolled to study jazz music at the University of KZN under Prof Mageshen Naidoo and obtained a Diploma in Jazz /Pop Music.

Sikhakhane has played with respected South African and international artists and is also a co-founder of a hip group named H3 from Durban but now Johannesburg based. His line-up for the concerts will be Sakhile Simani on flugel horn and trumpet, Sanele Phakathi on keys, Sphelelo Mazibuko on drums and Nhlanhla Radebe on double bass guitar.

Sikhakhane will also play three other gigs in KZN. These performances are a part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to grow a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.

Tickets for the performance cost R70 each, R45 for pensioners and R20 for students.
