Watch: Out-of-control bakkie barrels down Pretoria street

A motorist narrowly avoided crashing into a street pole on Braam Pretorius Street.

CCTV footage from a plush Pretoria suburb captured a motorist whose vehicle careens down a street, passing a street pole close enough to send a show board flying into the air.

The video was captured on Sunday and shared on Facebook by Theo Erasmus, the owner of Just Imagine Properties.

The footage starts calmly, showing a quiet street, and then suddenly – seemingly out of nowhere – a white bakkie can be seen skidding down the road. It appears to be heading straight for a pole, but avoids a direct impact. However, the force of the passing vehicle – or a glancing blow – sends one of Erasmus’s show boards spinning across the tarmac.

Erasmus says he had a show day for one of the properties on Braam Pretorius Street on Sunday. “To advertise the show day, I had placed show boards on street poles in the area to let people know about the viewing,” he adds.

Erasmus says he is used to the show boards being removed, stolen or damaged, but when this video was sent to him by a friend, he was stunned.
He adds that they were just a few houses away from where the video was captured.

“It could have been worse. I hope that the motorist is okay. It is safe to say that the only injury was a Just Imagine Properties show board,” says Erasmus.

* The circumstances surrounding the incident, or what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, are unknown.
