Man found dead in Boksburg jail cell after arrest, investigation underway

It’s alleged the deceased had suffered injuries when he was detained.

An investigation is underway in Boksburg after a suspect died while in police custody after his arrest.

The Boksburg man, accused of assault in an alleged domestic violence incident, has been found dead in a Boksburg North SAPS jail cell after he was arrested on Friday night, August 12.

SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, confirmed that the man in his 40s was found dead in a holding cell at the police station on Friday night.

Khweza stated that the circumstances surrounding the death of the suspect are being investigated, and an inquest docket has been registered.

Although authorities have not yet revealed details about the incident leading up to the in-custody death,  information gathered by this publication suggests that the deceased had suffered injuries when he was brought to the police station.
