WATCH: Atlasville residents take fight for power to energy depot

In the accompanying video, residents share their frustrations about the outage, the impact it has had on households, and their concerns about the metro’s response.

Atlasville residents have taken their frustration over a prolonged electricity outage directly to the City of Ekurhuleni’s Boksburg Energy Depot, demanding urgent action and answers from the metro.

Parts of the suburb have been without power since the early hours of July 12 after multiple cable faults hit the electricity network, leaving dozens of households without electricity.

A group of frustrated residents, accompanied by Ward 23 Clr Gerald Goslin, visited the depot to raise their concerns and call for faster repairs.

Watch the video for residents’ reactions and their message to the metro:

They said they were frustrated by the delay in restoring power and the lack of clear communication about when electricity would be restored.

Residents told the Boksburg Advertiser they were tired of waiting for answers, with some describing the outage as another example of ongoing service delivery challenges affecting the community.

The prolonged outage has disrupted daily life, with residents reporting food losses, security concerns and other difficulties caused by being without power for several days. They are calling on the metro to prioritise repairs and restore power as soon as possible.

Residents have warned that they will return in larger numbers if electricity is not restored tonight.
The city previously said its teams were attending to multiple cable faults in the area and that the damaged cable would be replaced.
The metro indicated that electricity was expected to be restored late tonight or in the early hours of tomorrow.
