Woman was not raped at Sunward Park Hospital

This is a follow-up story to an earlier report based on information supplied to the Advertiser by the police was published on this website which was deemed factually incorrect.

It was previously incorrectly reported that a patient was raped in her hospital room, at the Netcare Sunward Park Hospital, on Saturday night, October 15.

The Advertiser has since discovered that there has been a misunderstanding between the police and the complainant – which resulted in a version of events being recorded and reported incorrectly.

In actual fact, the rape didn’t occur at the hospital. The woman was apparently raped at a flat in Sunward Park, a few moments after she was discharged from the hospital. Therefore, the hospital has nothing to do with the rape allegations.

It was further revealed that the victim and her friends were attending a party in the flat, before she suffered injuries due a fall.

She was then treated at the hospital and upon being discharged, she returned to the flat where the raped apparently occurred.

According to the police report, the complainant said she felt dizzy while at the flat due to being on a drip while in hospital.

She then went to one of the rooms to rest. While lying on the bed, someone known to her entered the room, forcefully pulled down her pants and started raping her.

A rape case was registered and the suspect was later arrested.
