A commute down Rondebult Road on the evening of September 9 turned into a nightmare for a Boksburg couple when they saw a man abandon a dog on the side of the road.

The husband and wife tried to save the female fox terrier, but she was hit by a car and later died at an emergency vet.

The couple, who asked to remain anonymous, relayed what transpired to the Boksburg Advertiser and said they want justice for the animal.

The events unfolded between 19:35 and 20:00 between Lancaster and Southvale roads in Parkdene, while the couple were heading towards Farrar Park.

According to the couple, a man stopped on the side of the road and put the dog out of the car.

“As I realised what had happened, we stopped and the man pulled off, flashing at us,” the couple said. “We tried to calmly help her but she was so scared and ran from one side of Rondebult Road to the other. Just as I got close enough, she ran again.”

Despite the wife trying to signal traffic with a flashlight, the dog was hit by a vehicle.

“We rushed to the emergency vet in Sunward Park. They helped us immediately and tried everything they could, but to no avail.

“Our hearts are shattered and shocked at how cruel people are. To the Sunward Park emergency vet, thank you so much for trying your best to help her.

“May this beautiful lady – who had puppies not long ago – now rest in peace.”
