Crime rate in Boksburg remains a cause for concern

Some of the serious crimes reported to the Boksburg Police Station recently:

Sexual assault
A Blue Sky informal settlement woman was on March 18 arrested for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting an underage boy. The boy had spilled the beans after one of the residents told the family there was something amiss between the boy and the woman in question.
The matter is being investigated by the SAPS Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. The investigation revealed that another underage boy was also allegedly recently targeted by the suspect.

Burglary
In Parkrand, a resident woke up to find criminals had forced their way into his home on Van Den Heever Circle while he was asleep and stole a laptop on March 17. The victim woke up at about 3.50am when the alarm went off and discovered that one of the windows was forced open and his laptop was gone.

• In the Boksburg CBD, thieves broke into the PostNet branch opposite the Boksburg Civic Centre and stole electrical appliances. The thieves forced open the glass door and stole a TV set and computers sometime during the night between March 17 and 18.

• Still in the CBD, thieves forced open the door of a business on Commissioner Street and stole electric appliances sometime during the night between March 17 and 18.

• In Sunward Park, a resident woke up on March 24 to find that thieves had forced their way into his home on Constellation Road and stole valuable items while he was asleep. The intruders stole two laptops and a TV set.

Robbery
In Angelo Industrial Park, thieves held a security guard at gunpoint and stole an undisclosed number of truck batteries on March 18. The guard told police at about 1am that he noticed a gang of seven thugs, two carrying guns, approaching his guardroom. He tried to escape, but it was too late.
They caught hold of his arms and tied them with shoelaces before forcing him to lie on the ground next to the guardroom, while others were helping themselves to the truck batteries. No shots were fired.

• In Jerusalem informal settlement, a man woke up during the wee hours to find two men in his shack pointing a gun at him and demanding his belongings on March 19. They took R200 cash and a sound system before fleeing the scene. No shots were fired during the robbery.

• The dentist’s surgery at 88 Commissioner Street in the Boksburg CBD was robbed on March 20. The complainant told police two men had entered the building and told everybody it was a robbery and they should remain calm. The thugs then stole money, one of the victims’ cellphone and fled the scene on foot.

• In another robbery in the CBD, on March 22 two robbers entered a business at 123 Leeuwpoort Street and held staff at gunpoint before taking victims’ cellphones, a company laptop and a car key.

• A couple was taken to hospital for treatment by ambulance after being assaulted by a gang of armed intruders during the night in Angelo informal settlement on March 22. The victim told police around 1.30am the door was forced open and three men carrying guns and wearing masks and caps entered the shack. They assaulted the couple and ransacked the house, stealing money, a cellphone, a handbag and two radios.

Hijacking by “police”
A truck laden with sanitary towels, toilet paper and disposable nappies was recently hijacked when two alleged police officers in separately marked police motorcycles pulled the vehicle off the road. The driver told police he was driving in the Boksburg East industrial area when the officers in full police uniform signalled for him to pull over, and he did.
The officers asked for his driver’s licence before asking him to alight as they wanted to show him something wrong with the truck’s licence disc. While looking at the disc, a man in civilian clothes emerged and pointed a firearm at the driver, instructing him to get into a waiting Toyota.
In the Toyota were the gunman’s accomplices who drove with him to Olifantsfontein, where he was dumped. The victim then went to the nearby police station to report the hijacking and abduction.

Stolen car
In Sunward Park, a man was left stranded after his car, a Toyota Etios, was stolen while parked in the parking lot of the businesses on the corner of Albrecht Road and Bert Lacey Drive on March 19. The victim told police he parked the car and went into one of the businesses, but when he returned about 15 minutes later the car was gone.
