Desperate times call for desperate measures: sand used to fill potholes

The metro apparently told Ward 33 councillor that it has a plan in place to repair the damaged roads. However, it remains to be seen whether the department will keep its promise.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s delayed service delivery seems to have forced residents to take desperate measures to keep the City’s roads safe to drive on.

Among the many interventions by residents to rescue the City’s roads, someone recently resorted to using sand to fill the massive potholes on Pretoria Road in Comet,
This came after the Advertiser recently ran a story about the delays to repair the potholed stretch of the road near the intersection of Main Reef and Pretoria Road.

When this publication revisited the area this week, it was found that the massive holes had been filled with sand. It’s, however, still unclear as to who resorted to these desperate measures.

Desperate: Following the metro’s snail’s pace to fix roads defects in the City, someone resorted to filling the dangerous potholes on Pretoria Road with sand. Ward 33 DA councillor Ashley Hoods said the metro told him that it has a plan in place to repair the damaged roads. It remains to be seen whether the department will keep its promise.

Neglected

Ward 33 DA councillor Ashley Hoods said the roads in his ward have been neglected for a long time by the metro employees, resulting in a backlog to repair road defects.
“I was, however, in contact with the relevant department officials and they promised to prioritise the potholes and other road defects in my ward.”

Tight-lipped

The metro has not yet responded to questions from the Advertiser, but this publication understands that a senior Roads Department official went out to inspect the affected areas after the Advertiser reported on the state of the City’s roads.
