Five men are facing charges of fraud and contravening the National Road Traffic Act after they were found with a fake registration number on their vehicle.
According to the Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, a security response vehicle had been following the group of men after suspecting something suspicious about the vehicle.
Police were then called and they cornered the men along North Rand Road.
“When police officers traced the suspects’ vehicle number plate it was discovered that the number plate didn’t match with the suspects’ brown Suzuki car. When police proceeded to search the vehicle they found another registration number of Mpumalanga, which corresponded with the car and license disc.”

Ramaube said when police officers asked the suspects about the non-matching registration numbers and the reason for them to be in Boksburg, they were told that they were in Boksburg to buy a car even though they didn’t have money.
“In regards to the false registration numbers, they claimed to have bought the vehicle as it is in Springs. The police then arrested the five suspects due to their unsatisfactory responses,” said Ramaube.
All five suspects were detained at the Boksburg North SAPS and will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
