Human skeletal remains were found in a clogged drain in an open veld behind the Angelo informal settlement on September 29.
According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Ntsako Ledwaba, workers trying to unblock the drain spotted the bones floating in the wastewater.
Police were called to the scene after it appeared the bones were dislocated human bones from between the waist and feet.
SAPS Search and Rescue units arrived and launched a retrieval operation. They found the human bones were leg bones. No other body parts were found.
The bones will be sent for testing as part of the investigation to identify the victim.

Further examination will also be done to determine whether the bones could be related to an ongoing investigation regarding a teenage girl who was reportedly gang-raped and thrown down a mine shaft next to the drain in September 2016.
At the time, police reported that the 18-year-old was abducted from her shack during the night by a gang of men.
The discovery of the bones came 10 days after a different set of human bones was discovered in a veld near the Rooikraal Farms, prompting the Dawn Park police to open a murder case.
Police have asked for the public’s assistance in these cases. Anyone with information should contact Capt Mahlangu on 082 461 2731.
