According to the National Road Traffic Act (NRTA) 93/96, an approved and appropriate licence disc must be displayed on the front-left side of the windscreen of a registered and licensed vehicle, where it is visible, at all times.
When a motorist is stopped during a normal routine check by the EMPD officers, an inspection would be conducted and there would be no admission of guilt if the licence disc displayed on the vehicle does not apply to the vehicle.
Rights would be read to the handcuffed driver, who would then be taken to the nearest police station, where a docket would be registered against the suspect. The detainee would have his or her day in the relevant magistrate’s court for the hearing.
