Metro launches pothole repair blitz

A budget of R50m was set aside for the new campaign.

The MMC for Roads and Transport, Andile Mngwevu, encouraged officials to take pride in their work and attend to potholes they come across as soon as possible.
Mngwevu spoke at the launch of the city’s potholes repairs blitz, dubbed Sivala ama-pothole, in Nhlapho section, Katlehong.

According to metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, a budget of R50m was set aside for the new campaign, which should accelerate patching potholes and road repairs across the city.
With the approaching wet season, the campaign will also focus on clearing stormwater drainage systems, repainting road markings, and installing traffic signs.
The MMC reportedly laid the campaign’s foundation by rolling his sleeves and fixing potholes in the area.

“Today’s launch reinforces the work you already do as the people’s government. We depend on you to help us accelerate road maintenance. Take pride in your work and do it with due diligence because we are all here to serve the residents of Ekurhuleni,” said Mngwevu.
Residents can continue reporting potholes to the city’s call centre on 0860 543 000, on Twitter @CoE_Call_Centre or by emailing call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za
