Correctional Services warns of social media job scams
The Boksburg Correctional Services warns the public about the fraudulent job postings circulating online.
The Boksburg Correctional Services (BCS) warns the public about fraudulent job applications circulating on social media.
Sello Modise, the BCS spokesperson, says these posts falsely advertise jobs in the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), urging people to submit their CVs by the specified closing date of November 25.
The fake posts offer an annual salary of R216 217 and outline requirements like a Grade 10 or matric certificate, a clear criminal background check, unemployed status and being an SA citizen.
Modise stresses that these adverts are illegitimate and warns the public to be cautious.

He says the department presently has no new job postings and that departmental needs rather than seasonal trends determine recruitment.
“These fraudsters are exploiting people’s desperation during this time of year.
We urge individuals not to share personal information or make payments in response to these scams, which often request fees in exchange for guaranteed employment.
“The DCS reiterates that all legitimate job opportunities are posted on official government websites, such as www.dpsa.gov.za and www.dcs.gov.za.
“They do not require payment for job applications, and citizens are encouraged to verify any job postings by contacting the DCS directly.”
Modise says the public should report suspicious activity or individuals posing as DCS officials to law enforcement or through official channels in light of these scams.
The department reiterates that it prioritises transparency and integrity in its recruitment processes and will act against those perpetrating this fraud.
