Reiger Park SAPS hosted a vibrant event commemorating the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign at Oosrand Secondary School on December 10.
The event was organised in partnership with various stakeholders, including FAMSA, SANCA, Ekupholeni, the Community Policing Forum, Crime Prevention Wardens, Correctional Services, St Anthony’s Learning Centre, the Department of Social Development, FXB, Wits RHI, Community of Hope, Social Welfare, NICRO, Thusang Community Development, and the Gender-Based Violence Brigades.
The day began with a peaceful march from the Reiger Park Police Station to the school, with participants holding placards bearing powerful messages against gender-based violence.

According to SAPS spokesperson Constable Johannes Msimanga, the march aimed to raise awareness and demonstrate solidarity in the fight against abuse.
“The programme kicked off with an energetic aerobics session, promoting mental health and physical well-being.
“The session was followed by speeches from representatives of the various organisations, all of whom shared a unified message: an urgent call to end abuse in all forms.”
Msimanga said they also encouraged men to speak out about their experiences of abuse and seek help, breaking the silence that often surrounds such issues.
He said the event was attended by a diverse audience, including a group of elderly citizens who added a sense of wisdom and support to the proceedings.
Msimanga expressed gratitude for the community’s participation, noting that the event was a resounding success in fostering unity and spreading awareness.
