Boksburg SAPS take stance against GBV

This worldwide campaign from November 25 to December 10 seeks to inspire action against all forms of violence.

As the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign comes to an end, the Boksburg SAPS members, led by the Vispol commander Lieutenant Colonel Lusha Govender, engaged the community on GBV at the Angelo informal settlement sports ground on December 10.

The men and women in blue worked with stakeholders like community leaders, the Germiston parliamentary constituency office management committee of the municipality, counsellors, the Gauted e-Gov, GBV brigades, patrollers, Crime Prevention Wardens and the Youth Desk.

Elizabeth Miya, Bathobile Nkalanga, Babalwa Mkhefa, Lieutenant Colonel Lusha Govender, Julia Sethoko, Fikile Nceko and Vuyelwa Mgengwana.

Ntsako Ledwaba, the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, said the event gifted and honoured GBV victims.

“The community was urged to speak out against abuse and seek help. All the stakeholders had the opportunity to share their services and initiatives,” said Ledwaba.

Furthermore, the community received informative pamphlets.

The Vispol commander said, “God made men strong to be protectors, not abusers. Remember, when you are in trouble in a relationship, report it to the police station. Don’t wait until we find your body. You are precious and nobody’s punching bag. Don’t stay in a relationship because you have nowhere to go.

“You have somewhere to go. We are concerned about you, and we care about you. If you are in trouble, the police are here to help you. Even though the 16 Days campaign is for a short period, you are protected by the police all year around.”
