EMPD conducted extensive roadblocks in various areas, including Boksburg, stopping and searching over 2 000 vehicles between December 26 and December 29.
Katlego Mphahlele, EMPD spokesperson, said the operation formed part of a broader festive season initiative aimed at enhancing public safety, reducing crime and ensuring compliance with traffic laws during one of the busiest times of the year.

“We planned the roadblocks to address critical issues such as unroadworthy vehicles and other traffic violations.
“Officers issued written notices for numerous offences and took necessary enforcement actions to ensure lawfulness and accountability on the roads.
“The operations also served as a visible deterrent to criminal activities, contributing to safety in the region.”

Mphahlele highlighted maintaining road safety during the festive season was a top priority for the EMPD, given the high volume of travellers and the potential for traffic incidents.
She explained these roadblocks aim not only for immediate enforcement but also to cultivate long-term compliance and driver awareness.
