#MatricResults2024: An unfavourable outcome is not the end of the world, local facilities are at your service

The centre also offers a range of training courses to help you develop the skills and knowledge that can be used to start earning a living.

Following the release of the 2024 matric results on January 13 and 14, many learners found their marks not meeting their expectations to pursue their academic journey.
That is not the end of the world, as multiple options are available to improve your final school exam results.

Among available opportunities in Boksburg is the Franciscan Matric Project.
Whether you need to meet the minimum requirements for your dream course, or seeking to improve your overall results to open new doors to further studies, this school provides a clear path forward.

The Franciscan Matric Project, an NGO in Reiger Park founded by the late Fr Stan Brennan in 1986, offers tuition in the FET phase (grades 10, 11 and 12).
It is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education as an independent school and accredited by Umalusi.

Its matriculants in 2024 achieved a pass rate of 83.2% in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams. A ttoal of 83.3% of the 318 learners who sat for the NSC exams in 2024 passed, with 40% achieving a pass enabling them to pursue bachelor studies.

During the 2024 matric results ceremony on January 14, the Department of Education announced this school as the second-best performing independent school in Gauteng.
The school management attributed winning a top-ranking position in education to the team’s continued excellent performance to make a significant impact on the educational community.

Principal Sally Nicol (left), and the skills centre manager Jimmy Thosago (right), attributed winning the top-ranking position in the education sector to the team’s excellent performance.

School principal Sally Nicol said: “In an educational landscape where competition for places in higher education is fierce, the Franciscan Matric Project stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity for Grade 12 learners.

“The core mission is to ensure every Grade 12 learner has an opportunity to succeed, even if they have not achieved their National Senior Certificate or the results required for entry into their desired course or higher education institution.”

The school offers a full-time programme designed for learners who wish to redo their Grade 12 year and improve their results.

Learners register for seven subjects, retake all assessment tasks, and work closely with experienced educators to boost their school-based assessment marks, which contribute 25% towards their final NSC results.

“The school’s tailored program allows learners to revisit their academic journey in a supportive environment, helping them refine their skills, rebuild their confidence, and ultimately achieve the academic results they need.
“This opportunity is valuable for learners who have not met the required thresholds for higher education entry or those who want to improve their marks to gain a competitive edge in a competitive academic environment.

“We are proud of our learners’ achievements. This ranking reflects the dedication, hard work, and determination of our learners and staff. We are committed to continue providing the highest standard of education and support for our learners.”
