Tetra Pak and partners donate desks to Lakeside Primary

The accomplishment not only earned the school new furniture but also a cash prize of R25 000.

Tetra Pak, in collaboration with Orange Grove, RFG Foods, and Woodland Dairy, recently donated 70 new desks to Lakeside Primary School.

The handover was part of the celebration of Lakeside Primary’s achievement as the provincial champion in a national recycling competition, where learners collected 17 034 kg of cardboard cartons.

The accomplishment not only earned the school new furniture but also a cash prize of R25 000.

Masale Manoko, sustainability manager at Tetra Pak, emphasised the significance of the competition, which engaged over 300 000 learners across four provinces.

“This initiative is a powerful way to instil environmental responsibility and eco-consciousness in young learners,” Manoko stated.

He highlighted that the school’s victory is a testament to the dedication of its learners and staff in championing recycling efforts.

“By integrating sustainability into their education, Lakeside Primary is shaping future leaders who recognise the importance of reducing waste and protecting our planet.

“The new desks symbolise more than just a reward; they represent progress and support for the school’s ongoing environmental initiatives.”

Manoko noted that this partnership between corporate sponsors and educational institutions reflects a shared vision to nurture environmental stewardship from a young age.

Principal Craig Jansen expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donation.

“We are grateful that the desks were donated. We are a non-paying school catering to learners from underprivileged homes.

“We were expecting 40 desks but to our surprise, we received more than expected.

“Receiving these desks means a lot to us, especially since we recently erected three classrooms but had no furniture. Winning these desks was our primary motivation.

“This collaboration not only enhances the learning environment at the school but also fosters a culture of sustainability among the learners, preparing them to be responsible stewards of the environment in the future,” said Jansen.
