Follow up: Undisclosed amount withdrawn from missing John Shabangu’s account

His disappearance devastated Shabangu’s wife, Happy, who is struggling to process the distressing events.

A disturbing situation surrounds the disappearance of John Shabangu (49) of Dawn Park, who had been missing since February 27.

Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said despite ongoing police efforts, he remains unaccounted for and they detected suspicious financial transactions in his bank account.

“An undisclosed amount of money was withdrawn since his disappearance, with the last recorded on March 1.”

John Shabangu went missing on February 27.

His disappearance devastated Shabangu’s wife, Happy, who is struggling to process the distressing events.

She said her husband left for a friend’s house in Vosloorus at around 15:30 on the day he went missing.

“His friend said John left between 18:30 and 19:00 to come home, but he never arrived,” she said.

“I am not even sure what he was wearing at the time of disappearance. I was terrified. The police told me someone hijacked him and they found his abandoned car in Vosloorus.

“That made everything even more frightening,” she said, adding this is not the first traumatic incident her husband has endured.

“He was hijacked and abandoned before. I did not understand what was happening. I am so confused.

“We are grappling with immense fear and uncertainty as we await answers. We are not coping at all.”

Sekgobela stressed the importance of community assistance in the search.

“We appeal to anyone who may have seen or interacted with Shabangu on the day he went missing to contact us. Every detail, no matter how small, could be crucial in finding him,” she said.
