Determination drives Boksburg local to retail leadership
Starting as a cashier at Shoprite Boksburg North, Elvina Hermans worked her way up to become the Divisional Fruit & Veg Manager for Usave’s Northern Division.
Boksburg’s Elvina Hermans has proven that hard work and dedication can open doors to remarkable career growth.
Starting as a cashier at Shoprite Boksburg North in 2014, she has risen through the ranks to become the divisional fruit and veg manager for Usave’s Northern Division, overseeing operations in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the North West.
After matriculating from Windmill Park Secondary School in 2011, Hermans initially pursued studies in business management. However, financial realities led her to seek employment, and she found an opportunity within the Shoprite Group.
“I wanted to gain work experience while earning a stable income. Shoprite was the most familiar retailer in my community and it felt like the right place to start,” she said.

Her exceptional scanning rate at the tills quickly caught the attention of her superiors, leading to a series of promotions. Within three months, she moved to the Money Market and cash office and by 2015, she was promoted to trainee manager.
“This marked the beginning of a rapid career ascent that included roles such as administration manager, fresh foods manager and branch manager, before assuming my current senior position.”

Johan Burger, divisional manager, praises her work ethic. “Elvina’s positive attitude and steadfast dedication have contributed significantly to our success.
“Her ability to deliver excellence consistently makes her an invaluable asset to Usave’s Northern division.”
Beyond her professional achievements, Hermans is a role model in her family. As the first to buy a home, she has paved the way for her younger siblings, inspiring them to pursue their own goals.
She continues to reside in Windmill Park, Boksburg, where she has lived her entire life alongside her two brothers and sister.
“Growing up and staying in Boksburg means everything to me. This community shaped me, and I’m proud to give back in any way I can,” she reflects.
She encourages young professionals to embrace growth.
“Hard work is recognised and there’s no better place to build a career.”
