Moonsamy family unites for justice, frustrated by delays
The matter was postponed to May 12.

“It’s another month of pain and grief,” was the sentiment expressed by Michaela Moonsamy Yellapan’s brother, Jeremy Moonsamy, after his sister’s murder case was dealt another postponement on March 25.
The newly-wed 27-year-old from Benoni was fatally shot at the Key Largo Centre in Boksburg in the early hours of May 18 last year.
Brandon Govender (48) faces a charge of murder and two of attempted murder in connection with Michaela’s death and made his first appearance in the Boksburg Regional Court since the matter was transferred here at his last appearance.

Magistrate Ramufhufhi granted the postponement upon the request of prosecutor Mancoba, who said he needed time to review the docket because this was Govender’s first regional court appearance.
The matter resumes on May 12.
Frustrated
Yellapan’s family again attended the court in numbers, wearing pink T-shirts with the wording, “We want justice for Michaela Moonsamy Yellapan”.

Her father, Jason Moonsamy, expressed frustration over the delay, “It’s very sad that there is now another delay. We want justice served. I know it will not bring back my baby. I’m asking everybody on social media to join us in seeking justice and not prolonging this court matter,” he said.
Jeremy also voiced his disappointment and called for assistance to help “get the ball rolling” in finalising the matter.
“It’s really unfair on us. The investigation is done, yet it gets postponed again. It’s now another month of pain and grief. We would like people to step in and assist us.

“Another month will go by. Hopefully, next time, we will get the ball rolling. Now, we feel like we are not getting anywhere.”
Michaela’s husband, Cameron Yellapan, said it has been a challenging time for him, and he is hurt by losing “the love of his life”.
“She was the most loving person who always had a smile on her face,” he said.
The Boksburg Advertiser awaits comment from the NPA regarding the family’s concerns about the continued postponements.
