Urban Ruins Easter egg hunt brings joy to over 600 children

Urban Ruins, in partnership with local organisations, brought Easter magic to Freeway Park with an egg hunt, fun activities and full tummies for every child.

Urban Ruins Projects, in partnership with RySky, Be a Light Foundation and #FeedBoksburg, hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for more than 600 children at the Freeway Park Church on April 12.

The initiative brought together local businesses, volunteers and donors, all working to create an unforgettable experience for the area’s youth.

Clayton Viljoen of Urban Ruins.

According to Clayton Viljoen, CEO of Urban Ruins, the event aimed to uplift children from the community by offering not just meals, but also engaging activities and a strong sense of belonging.

“Thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers and the generosity of our sponsors, every child left with a smile and a full stomach.
“One of the highlights of the day was the exciting contribution from Blades and Triggers at East Rand Mall, who provided complimentary target shooting sessions for children aged 12 and above. This unique activity was a big hit with the older kids and added an adventurous twist to the day.”

Viljoen also praised the #FeedBoksburg team, led by Anché Moore, for their critical role in the event’s success.
“Not only did they participate in the day’s activities, but they also took on the massive task of preparing lunch, ensuring that every attendee enjoyed a hearty meal,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the event a success, highlighting that both financial support and hands-on volunteerism were essential.

“A special thank you to Julie Bezuidenhout, whose support, along with that of many generous donors, helped make the day possible.
“While it’s impossible to name every individual, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love and generosity from the community,” he said.

“Every contribution helps us do more. The transformation of our community starts within each of us. By embracing our individual power, we can create a collective force that brings about real change.”
