Teen to represent SA in Japan

Christian Brothers’ College Boksburg celebrated a proud moment as one of its own was selected to represent South Africa at the U18 Baseball World Cup after a clean sweep in Zimbabwe.

Christian Brothers’ College (CBC) Boksburg celebrated Grade 12 learner Connor Steyn, who was selected to represent SA at the 33rd World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U18 Baseball World Cup in Japan in September.

Connor, of the Benoni Indians, recently returned from Zimbabwe, where he played a vital role, helping the SA U18 national baseball team win a five-match Test series. The team dominated the tournament, claiming victory in all five matches and being crowned the WBSC Africa Champions.

“Connor played his heart out,” said CBC Boksburg marketing manager Nikita Teixeira.
“He gave his all on the field and showed tenacity throughout the series. His humility and leadership were evident every step. Connor’s selection is the result of years of hard work, discipline and passion. Balancing academics and sports, he has consistently shown commitment to excellence inside and outside the classroom.”

Teixeira said Connor is more than just a gifted athlete. He is a natural leader who inspires those around him. His work ethic and positive attitude are what make him exceptional.
“At CBC Boksburg, the achievement is seen as a reflection of the school’s commitment to developing well-rounded learners who excel in multiple disciplines.

“We believe in nurturing the whole child – mind, body and spirit. Connor exemplifies what it means to be a CBC learner – dedicated, respectful and courageous. He has made us incredibly proud.”
As the countdown to Japan begins, the CBC community stands behind Connor.
“Whether on the field or in the classroom, Connor leads with heart. We look forward to seeing him shine on the world stage.”
