Ekon Kai Karate needs new venue to continue keeping kids off the streets
The club in Ramaphosa needs a new venue to keep children off the streets and teach them discipline, confidence, and respect.

Ekon Kai Karate in Ramaphosa is urgently looking for a new venue to continue its mission of empowering children and teenagers through martial arts.
Led by shihan Moeti Holomo, the club has been a haven for youngsters as young as seven, offering more than just karate lessons. It provides structure, respect, and a sense of belonging in a community where many children are vulnerable to negative influences.
Holomo believes the impact of karate extends far beyond the dojo floor.
“Karate keeps our children off the streets. It teaches discipline, self-respect and resilience. For many of our youngsters, training here is the difference between drifting into trouble and finding a purpose.”
For three years, Ekon Kai Karate, which welcomes students aged seven and up, has produced disciplined and confident students who not only succeed in competitions but also carry their training into daily life.
Parents have praised the programme for improving children’s focus at school and teaching them responsibility at home.

However, the lack of a proper training space threatens to undo much of this progress.
The club has been operating under difficult conditions, and Holomo says the need for a permanent venue has never been more urgent.
“Right now, our biggest fight isn’t in the ring; it’s finding a place where these children can train safely. With the right venue, we can expand, accommodate more kids and give them the security they deserve.
“I used to teach the students at the local church, but unfortunately, that is no longer possible. We are now training in my home garage, which is small and cannot accommodate everyone comfortably.
“The call for help is not only about bricks and mortar. It’s about giving Ramaphosa’s children hope and opportunity.”
