Sunward Park High principal lauded for school’s ‘e-maturity’

The school’s commitment to integrating technology into teaching and learning earned it top recognition at the Ekurhuleni South ICT Awards.

The Ekurhuleni South e-Learning Business Unit hosted its annual awards at the Palmridge Community Hall on 17 October to celebrate schools that have demonstrated excellence in integrating technology into teaching and learning.

The ceremony recognised innovative educators and school-based committees that have embraced digital transformation and shown outstanding “e-maturity” in implementing modern learning tools.
Among the schools honoured this year was Sunward Park High School, which stood out for its remarkable commitment to digital innovation and technology-driven education.

“Sunward Park has consistently shown how technology can transform the learning experience,” said Joel Mavuso, district e-learning coordinator.
“The school’s dedication to digital education is inspiring. Leading this success is Principal Walljee, whose visionary leadership has turned Sunward Park into a model for modern, tech-enabled learning.

“Her dedication to digital transformation also earned her third place in the technology category at the Gauteng Department of Education’s 25th Annual National Teaching Awards on 7 October.
“Integrating technology into our classrooms isn’t just about having devices; it’s about creating an environment where learning is exciting, interactive, and accessible to all. This recognition motivates us to push even further.”

For Walljee, this honour is both a milestone and a motivation to continue expanding the school’s digital footprint.
“Our journey is ongoing. We want every learner to leave Sunward Park prepared for the digital world, with the skills and confidence to succeed.”

Mavuso concluded that the impact of digital integration on teaching and learning is becoming increasingly evident.
“Schools that embrace technology are seeing higher levels of learner engagement and improved academic performance. Sunward Park is a shining example.”
