Show support for the SPCA Christmas Cheer Fund

Every donation, no matter the size, brings a spark of joy and hope to an animal longing for a second chance this Christmas.

As the festive season of giving draws near, the Boksburg SPCA is calling on residents to open their hearts to animals in need through its annual Christmas Cheer Fund.

The campaign, which kicked off on November 1 and runs until the first week of January, aims to raise R100 000 to support the shelter during one of its busiest times of the year.

With kennels usually overflowing as lost, abandoned, and surrendered pets arrive in growing numbers, the fund will ensure that every furry resident enjoys a full belly and a warm bed this Christmas.

According to the SPCA, donations from the fund will go towards several essential projects, including purchasing two new spay sets for the clinic, installing a solar system to reduce energy costs, providing enrichment items for the new cattery, and supplying dry and wet food for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens.

In addition, part of the proceeds will support an outreach sterilisation and treatment fund to assist animals in underprivileged areas.

Residents can contribute to the cause by visiting the shelter at Railway Street, Boksburg, or by making a direct donation to:
Boksburg SPCA, Absa Bank, branch code 632005, account number 4046388139.
Use ‘Christmas Cheer’ and your name (or ‘anonymous’) as the payment reference.

The Boksburg Advertiser will feature regular donor updates on its website throughout the campaign.

Last festive season, the SPCA surpassed expectations by raising an impressive R119 015, but this year’s target remains ambitious amid rising costs and growing demand.

SPCA secretary Sue Beadon said support has been slow so far and urged the community to assist in any way they can.

“We haven’t seen much support yet, and we’re appealing to residents to donate dry and wet food for cats and dogs,” she said.

Whether big or small, every contribution brings a moment of joy and hope to an animal waiting for a second chance this Christmas.
